Raiders Topple Suffield In Seesaw Matchup [VIDEO]

Enfield comes back to beat Wildcats 9-8 in NCCC baseball showdown Wednesday.

T.J. Diggs cracked a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Enfield the lead for good, as the Raiders captured a back-and-forth 9-8 victory over Suffield in NCCC baseball action Wednesday. A bases-loaded walk to pinch-hitter Kyle Lumbert off losing pitcher Dylan Rupp brought Enfield within 8-7, and an out later, Diggs singled to center off reliever Will Clark to bring in the tying and eventual winning runs. John Cerrato, who had started on the mound for Enfield but was relieved by Sal Spadaro early in the third inning, came back to pitch in the sixth and retired five straight Wildcats before Dalton Peck hit a two-out double in the seventh. With the tying run in scoring position, Cerrato bore down and induced a groundout …

PTO Groups Host Bus Driver Appreciation Lunch

School bus drivers thanked for their hard work.

On Tuesday, members of the middle school and elementary school Parent Teacher Organizations treated the drivers to lunch in the cafeteria at Kennedy Middle School, as a way of saying thanks for all they do for the town and its children. "Parents were all complaining about the reorganization, but the bus drivers were as affected as anyone, and we wanted to show our appreciation," said organizer Laura Montigny …

Longtime Golf Coach Bob Lengyel Remembered as Fermi Outshoots Enfield

Falcons post 154-185 victory to up their record to 12-1.

That something was longtime coach Bob Lengyel, who helmed the golf squads at both schools during his 40-plus season coaching career that earned him a place in the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. In his second stint as head coach of the Raiders, Lengyel passed away suddenly on Jan. 7 at age 74. Monday's matchup was the first time anyone could recall the two teams meeting without Lengyel's presence. "Those are enormous shoes to fill, and there's no way I can fill them," Enfield coach Todd Zenczak said. "He was a tremendous guy, and I can't …
