The Hazardville Institute Conservancy Society, Inc. has announced that the arrival of their limited edition Christmas ornament is expected later this week, with sales planned to begin Thursday afternoon, December 15th

at the Hazard Avenue branches of New England Bank, the Cranberry Scoop gift shop located in the former Hazardville Hotel, and Century21 All Points Realty, also on Hazard Avenue.
"The October storm and power outage delayed our design and production process a few weeks," said Gretchen Pfeifer-Hall, president of the Conservancy. "But the artists have really come through for us to ensure we keep our collector's happy."

The 2011 limited edition ornament depicts Col. Augustus Hazard's homestead on Enfield Street. Col. Hazard established the black powder mill complex in Enfield along the Scantic River as well as the industrial village that now bears his name. The Hazard family lived in a beautiful Italianate mansion on Enfield Street, across from what is now the present-day entrance to Enfield High School. The winter scene is circa December 1855 with guests arriving by horse-drawn carriage.

Later serving as the Enfield Inn, the home burned down in 1969 in a spectacular fire just as a renovation effort was being undertaken.

The ornament was commissioned by the Conservancy and produced in the USA by Barlow Designs of East Providence, RI. They are set in brass, finished with a gold-trimmed bow, and neatly packaged in a display box— ready for gift-giving, collecting, or hanging on the tree. To arrange shipment of an ornament, please contact Bill Lee at 860-749-4922 or email hazardville@cox.net.

Proceeds from the sale of the $20 ornament are utilized directly by the Conservancy for the ongoing rehabilitation of the Hazardville Institute building.
