Long-Running Card and Collectibles Show Reaching the Finish Line

The monthly East Windsor show is coming to an end this Sunday.

An era is coming to an end this weekend after more than two decades in East Windsor.

Since February 1991, a card and collectibles show has been held the third Sunday of each month at the East Windsor hotel currently known as the Clarion Inn, formerly the Ramada Inn and Best Western. This Sunday's event, however, will be the last.

Promoter Bob Charrette cites several factors in his decision to stop running shows.

"It's a combination of a bad economy and the fact that collecting new cards is not a kids' hobby anymore," Charrette said. "Years ago, they flooded the market with too much stuff. When I started, I had 56 tables and up to 500 visitors. There's not nearly as many as there used to be."

The decreasing market has led to closure of many shows in the area, with Charrette's being the latest.

"I've had a good run, but it's run its course," he said.

The final show will be this Sunday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be no admission charge.
