Fleet Feet Run Enfield Past Avon, 6-1

Avery Boissy scores three times as Raiders avenge earlier defeat to Avon.

What a difference nearly two weeks makes.

After being crushed 12-1 in Avon on May 1, the Enfield High School baseball team used some daring baserunning and solid pitching to stymie the Falcons 6-1 in the rematch Monday in Enfield.

Chris Lapointe pitched into the fifth inning, allowing just four hits and one run. Steve Roy finished up with two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief.

"Lapointe pitched really well; all we wanted was three innings and we got more," Enfield coach Jay Gaucher said. "Steve Roy came in in a clutch situation and got a big strikeout; he shows no fear out there."

The Raiders tallied two in the first when both Tom Meskell and Avery Boissy scored on a squeeze bunt by Tyler Griffith. The same duo scored again in the third when Meskell stole home and Boissy came around on a wild pitch.

Avon scored in the fourth on an RBI single by Nick Sanderson, but Enfield added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth on a Falcon throwing error and an Ian Lempitsky sacrifice fly.

Boissy scored three runs for the Raiders, who won their third straight game. Sanderson and Dan Sheiker each had two hits for the Falcons.

Enfield (10-7) plays at Suffield Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. Avon (10-4) travels to Ellington Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
