U.S. Sen. Murphy Coming to Enfield

Murphy will discuss training and education regarding the state's manufacturing industry.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D - Conn.) is making a stop in Enfield Thurs., Jan. 23.

Murphy is holding a roundtable discussion with students, professors and area manufacturers at Asnuntuck Community College to discuss the manufacturing industry and the importance of training and education to the industry's growing workforce in Connecticut.

Murphy is a member of the U.S. Senate's Manufacturing Jobs for America, which is described as "an effort to rally bipartisan support for legislation that would help manufacturers grow and create jobs, refocusing Washington's attention on the 11 million Americans still looking for work."

The program, according to a webpage attributed to U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), focuses on four themes:

  • Strengthening America's 21st Century Workforce
  • Opening Markets Abroad
  • Creating Conditions Necessary for Growth
  • Expanding Access to Capital

According to a statement, Murphy has introduced to American Jobs Matter Act, which would affect the rewarding of defense contracts by requiring the Department of Defense review a bidding company's measure of domestic employment practices.

Murphy's roundtable will begin at 2 p.m. at Asnuntuck Community College, located at 170 Elm Street in Enfield. State Rep. David Alexander (D-Enfield) will also be on hand.
