Special Teams Lift Fermi Co-op Past Suffield

Brian Riley scores three goals in 5-1 victory Wednesday.

The Fermi/Enfield/East Granby/Stafford hockey co-op netted three goals on special teams Wednesday, powering the Falcons to a 5-1 victory over Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks at the Enfield Twin Rinks.

Brian Riley scored three goals, including a power play tally, while Matt Boulette clinched the win with a pair of shorthanded goals.

Riley scored the only goal of the first period just 2:14 into the game, but Max Marson evened it for the Wildcats by scoring 50 seconds into the second period.

Riley's second goal, the eventual game-winner, came on the power play with 3:52 left in the second period. He completed his hat trick just 34 seconds later.

With 1:23 left in the middle period, Boulette scored his first shorthanded goal, then added another 47 seconds into the third period.

Falcons goaltender Aaron Lickwar stopped 18 shots, while Wildcats netminders Cameron Clark and Shane Kertanis combined for 29 saves.

The Falcons (5-7-1) travel to South Windsor Saturday at 6 p.m. The Wildcats (3-9-1) host Amherst Regional that same day at 4 p.m.
