Shorthanded Falcons Fall to E.O. Smith, 3-1

Fermi girls take the early lead, but Panthers come back with three unanswered scores to post the win.

In a driving rainstorm, Taylor Bilyak scored two goals and E.O. Smith took advantage of a Fermi red card penalty to defeat the Falcons 3-1 in CCC East girls soccer action Friday in Enfield.

"I was extremely proud of the way we played in the second half, dominating even down a player," Fermi head coach Bob Evans said.

Ashley Kennedy got Fermi on the board less than three minutes into the contest, then Bilyak tied it with 15:50 left before intermission.

The advantage shifted less than ten minutes into the second half, when Fermi's Brooke Strevel was disqualified for an intentional handball in the box. Karina Larson was awarded a penalty kick which caromed off the goalpost and nicked Fermi goalkeeper Jillian Power, allowing Larson to boot home the rebound and put the Panthers in front.

Bilyak added an insurance goal with just over 26 minutes to play.
