School Board Recognizes Athletic Champions

Fermi's Courtney Ryder and the Enfield High School boys basketball team earn honors.

An outstanding individual athlete and a record-breaking team were honored by the Enfield Board of Education at its meeting Tuesday night in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.

Courtney Ryder of and the boys basketball team received recognition for their outstanding performances this winter.

Ryder won the state Class M high jump championship as a member of the Fermi indoor track team. She was presented a medal by school board Chairman Tim Neville, Vice Chairman Vinny Grady, Secretary Donna Szewczak and Coordinator of Athletics Barry Bernstein.

The Enfield basketball team won its third straight NCCC championship and advanced to the , where it dropped a last-second heartbreaker to Ledyard to spoil what had been an undefeated season.

Team members were also presented medals by the board.
