Opening Day for Enfield Schools Runs Generally Smoothly

The hassles that dominated the opening of the 2011-12 school year are a distant memory.

Enfield schools went back into session Tuesday, with very little sign of the problems that plagued the beginning of last school year.

Principals at several schools said the day seemed to run smoothly. Some bus drivers reported having children on the bus for nearly an hour, but that was a far cry from opening day 2011, when bus rides of more than an hour and a half were commonplace due to the major reconfiguration of the elementary schools.

Two new principals greeted students at their respective buildings. Jill Krieger has replaced Tom Duffy as principal of , while Sandra Ingalls left her post as house master at to become principal at .

Krieger said she was excited to finally meet the students at Enfield High, while Ingalls echoed similar sentiments at Whitney.

The biggest problem reported was execution of new lunch procedures at the middle school. Principal Tim Van Tasel said students are now required to sit within their teams and are called to the lunch line by table, resulting in some students having only a few minutes to eat their lunch.

Van Tasel said that problem will be resolved over the next few days.
