Moore Leads Avon Gridders Past Enfield

Colin Moore scored three times as the Falcons defeated Enfield, 26-6.

Colin Moore rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns as unbeaten Avon High School overcame a slow start to defeat host Enfield 26-6 in Pequot Uncas football action Friday night.

After a scoreless opening quarter, Moore broke off scoring runs of 36 and 59 yards in the final six minutes before halftime to provide the Falcons a 13-0 lead at intermission.

Chris Suttmeier caught a 6-yard scoring pass from Noah Hahn in the third quarter for a 20-0 Avon lead. Enfield then appeared to get on the board on a touchdown pass from Kyle Maynard to Mike Crowley, but the play was negated by a holding penalty.

The Raiders did crack into the scoring column on the first play of the fourth quarter, when Nick Bevilacqua ran in from three yards out.

Moore capped the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run with 8:45 to play.

Avon (8-0) hosts undefeated Ellington/Somes Saturday at 1 p.m. Enfield (4-4) plays at Coventry Friday at 7 p.m.
