JFK Band Students Cap Successful Year

Eighth grade musicians captured five awards in spring competitions.

Eighth-grade band students at John F. Kennedy Middle School performed admirably in late-year competitions, bringing home five awards.

The eighth-grade jazz combo took home a silver medal at the Fermi Jazz Festival in late February, and the Patriot Band captured the silver medal at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association on April 1.

At Fantastic Festivals, the middle school concert band wound up in first place overall out of 37 entries. The group also won the Platinum Award and the Esprit de Corps Award, given to the outfit showing the most pride in their group.

"They've made incredible improvement this year," band director John Power said. "Every success they had was a launching pad to the next one."
