Fermi Girls Fall to Wethersfield, 2-0

Two second-half goals lift Eagles past Falcons.

A pair of second-half goals snapped a scoreless tie, as visiting Wethersfield shut out Fermi 2-0 in high school girls soccer action Friday in Enfield.

Stephanie Emmanuel scored the only goal the Eagles would need with 25:27 remaining, and Kayla Generis added an insurance tally with 5:23 to play.

Summer Budaj and Rachel Lombardi combined for the shutout in goal for Wethersfield, recording five saves. Kaley Kennedy was a workhorse in net for the Falcons, stopping 17 shots before suffering an injury in the final four minutes.

"Kaley played tremendously," Fermi head coach Bob Evans said. "They beat us to every 50-50 ball, and we've got to find some rhythm."

Both teams return to action on the road Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. Fermi (3-6) travels to Tolland, while Wethersfield (4-5) visits East Catholic.
