Fermi Advances in Boys Soccer Tournament With 5-0 Win Over Cheney Tech

The Falcons travel to Bristol Eastern for the next round Sunday at 2 p.m.

Conor Glettenberg scored two goals as 13th-seeded Fermi High School knocked off Cheney Tech 5-0 in the first round of the CIAC Class L boys soccer tournament Friday in Enfield.

Glettenberg scored the only goal the Falcons would need near the midway point of the first half, and added his second shortly after intermission.

Dale Quesnel and Alex Brown scored in the first half to provide Fermi a 3-0 lead, and Chris Giottonini capped the scoring with 13:27 to play.

Goalkeepers Alex Zachary and Matt Evans combined for the Falcons' ninth shutout of the season, which head coach Jim Russell said is the most in his 26-year tenure at the helm.

"I have to give Cheney Tech kudos, because they made the state tournament, which they haven't done in a long time. That's a great achievement for them," Russell said.

Fermi (11-5-1) advances to the second round Sunday at #4 Bristol Eastern, which received a first-round bye. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Cheney Tech finished the season with a 7-9-1 record.
