Town Committees, Commissions Have Openings

Want to affect life in Windsor? You can fill one of these vacancies on town boards and commissions without having to bother with municipal election politics.

With the 2013 municipal elections less than a month away, the town council and board of education are getting the bulk of attention, but those two boards aren't the only governing bodies that make the town run. There are over a dozen commissions and committees that influence the lives of your family and neighbors, and they have openings you won't have to campaign for to fill.

According to the town, there are 24 vacancies on volunteer committees in town as of Oct. 5, including the following (numbers in parentheses denote multiple vacancies):

  • Area 25 Cable Television Advisory Committee
  • Ethic Commission - Alternate (2)
  • Loan Review Committee - Alternate
  • Enfield Revitalization Strategy Committee (3)
  • Enfield Beautification Committee (2)
  • Clean Energy Committee 
  • Connecticut Water Company Advisory Council Enfield Representatives
  • Ethics Commission
  • North Central District Health Department Board of Directors Enfield Representatives
  • Housing Code Appeals Board - Alternate (2)
  • Building Code Appeals Boar - Contractor
  • Building Code Appeals Board - Architect 
  • Fair Rent Commission (5)
  • Inland Wetland and Watercourse Agency - Alternate
Some committee appointments are approved by the town council, while others include an appointment made by the town manager, but all are volunteer opportunities you can apply for.
