Official Enfield Voter-Turnout Figures Released

Enfield fell just shy of the state average for voter participation in the Nov. 5 municipal election.

Nearly 30 percent of Enfield’s registered voters cast a ballot in the Nov. 5 municipal election, according to Secretary of State Denise Merrill, who released official voter-turnout figures for all Connecticut towns Wednesday.

The figure represents ballots cast by 6,426 residents, and falls just shy of the state average of 31.43 percent.

“Municipal elections usually have lower turnout figures than state or presidential elections, even though the impact of the decisions made by those elected to local government is huge in the community,” Merrill said Wednesday.

“Many races were decided by just a handful of votes, and we had a number of recounts as a result, which shows once again how important it is to do your civic duty and cast a ballot.”

Nearly 70 percent of Enfield residents participated in the 2012 presidential election, with 18,250 ballots being cast, according to town records.
