Enfield Mayor Will Not Seek Re-election

Scott Kaupin has served on the Enfield Town Council for two decades, but will not run for office again this fall.

The leadership of Enfield government will change with this fall's municipal elections, as Mayor Scott Kaupin has decided to not seek another term on the Town Council.

Kaupin has served as District 3 councilman for 20 years, and became mayor six years ago when the Republican party gained majority control of the council.

A considerable amount of changes appear imminent following the Republican caucus Monday night.

Town Council at-large candidates endorsed by the Republican Town Committee were incumbents Carol Hall, Greg Stokes and Bill Lee, as well as former councilman Mike Ludwick. Incumbent Ken Nelson, Jr., the deputy mayor, and former Board of Education member Patrick Droney were also nominated at-large, with Hall, Ludwick, Nelson and Droney emerging as the four highest vote-getters.

When Lee came up short in the at-large balloting, he was selected to run for Kaupin's long-held District 3 seat. Other district candidates are incumbents Joe Bosco (1) and Tom Kienzler (4), along with District 2 challenger Dominic Alaimo.

Donna Szewczak, an incumbent on the Board of Education, also failed to gain re-nomination despite endorsement by the town committee. School board candidates will be incumbents Peter Jonaitis, Kevin Fealy and Tom Sirard, along with Republican Registrar of Voters David Wawer and political newcomer David Bouley.

Cindy Andersen, Tisha Callahan, Bob Chagnon and Dan Post were nominated for constable positions.
