Enfield Dentist Accused in Patient's Death Focus of State Hearing

The commission will decide whether the treatment given by Dr. Rishmi Patel was appropriate and whether his dental license will be reinstated.

The Connecticut Dental Commission continued its fact-finding hearing Wednesday into the death of a patient following treatment by an Enfield dentist.

According to a report by WFSB, the commission must decide whether Dr. Rishmi Patel will be able to practice dentistry again in Connecticut. His license was suspended in April following the death of patient who had undergone 20 teeth extractions and implants in a procedure at his office, according to the report.

The state suspended Patel's dental license after receiving an anonymous tip about the treatment of patient Judith Gan, whose official cause of death has yet to be determined, according to the report.

Two former employees of Patel testified  July 16 before the commission in Hartford. The commission is to continue the hearing July 23. It is not known when the commission will hand down its decision.
