Enfield Democrats Nominate Candidates for Municipal Election

A mixture of experienced candidates and new faces will be on the Democratic ticket this November.

Some political newcomers will be campaigning alongside established veterans as the Enfield Democratic Town Committee endorsed 17 candidates for this year's municipal election at a meeting Wednesday night.

District 2 Town Councilman William "Red" Edgar and at-large Council incumbents Cindy Mangini, Pat Crowley and Tom Arnone were all endorsed for re-election. They will be joined on the ballot by candidates Gina Cekala (at-large), Jill Krawiec (District 1), Liz Davis (District 3) and Ed Deni (District 4).

Krawiec came up 205 votes short of unseating incumbent Republican Joe Bosco in the 2011 election. Cekala, Davis and Deni are running for public office for the first time.

Cekala is an attorney with two children in the Enfield school system and is a military wife. Davis is a 22-year military veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and is a parent of an elementary school student. Deni retired from Unisource Paper, and served 34 years in the Army National Guard as a 1st sergeant.

Nominees for the Board of Education are incumbents Tim Neville, Vincent Grady and Tina Leblanc, former board member Stacy Thurston and newcomer Vincent Weseliza. Incumbents Joyce Hall and Jennifer Rancourt chose not to run this fall.

Constable candidates are Ted Plamondon, Tony DiPace, Al Harrison and Charles Ladd.

"We're moving in a positive direction, and I think we have a very good chance," committee chairman Bill Thomson said.

The Republicans will officially nominate their candidates at a caucus on July 22.
