Michael Cole was charged with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree strangulation and risk of injury to a minor.

A local man is in police custody after he allegedly sexually assaulted a child under the age of 16, according to South Windsor Police.

Michael Cole, 49, of Main Street in South Windsor, was arrested Feb. 20 on a warrant that had been issued for his arrest.

Cole was charged with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree strangulation and risk of injury to a minor.

The charges against Cole stem from complaint filed in January that accused him of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 16, according to the South Windsor Police arrest report.

Investigators later obtained an arrest warrant for Cole, which was served this past Thursday.

He was held on a $500,000 surety bond and was presented at Manchester Superior Court on Friday morning.
