Enfield Man Strikes, Kills Pedestrian with Car in Vernon

A Vernon woman died late Saturday night after being struck by a car driven by an 84-year-old Enfield man; police say no charges have been filed.

A 53-year-old Vernon woman was struck and killed by a car driven by an 84-year-old Enfield man late Saturday night on West Main Street.

According to Vernon Police Lt. William Meier, police responded to a report of a car vs. pedestrian accident in the area of 144 West Main Street at 11:29 p.m. Saturday night, Dec. 21. When they arrived, officers found that a woman had been struck by a passing car traveling on North Main Street.

The victim, identified as Maureen Thompson, 53, of 33 Brooklyn St., Vernon, was transported to Rockville Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the 2007 Dodge Caliber that struck Thompson was identified as Robert Davis, 84, of Enfield. 

No charges have been filed, and the incident is still under investigation with the assistance of a regional accident-reconstruction team from Metro Traffic Services. Police are asking any witnesses to call Vernon Police at 860-872-9126.
