UPDATE: I-91 Re-Opens After Treatment of Icy Conditions

DOT officials had closed the highway in both directions from Windsor to the Mass. line.

Interstate 91 has been re-opened in both directions, according to a notification received by Enfield officials from the state Department of Transportation.

Treacherous driving conditions have prompted the state Department of Transportation to close Interstate 91 in both directions from exit 40 in Windsor to the Massachusetts border.

The town of Enfield issued an alert to residents via the Everbridge notification system that the 14-mile stretch highway will be closed until approximately 11 a.m.

Icy conditions caused numerous crashes and spinouts, resulting in the decision to close the highway until it could be treated, Enfield Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said.
