South Windsor police are urging people to be on the lookout for phone scams after a "Grandparent Scam" was thwarted on Thursday.
Police say an elderly couple received a call from a male who claimed to be a Springfield police officer. The man said he had the woman's grandson in custody and directed the victim to obtain money order cards for bail.
The victims went to the CVS pharmacy at 525 Buckland Road, according to nbcconnecticut.com, to buy the money order cards but the clerk warned the victim about such scams and police were notified.
Officers determined that the grandson was not in custody and police continue to investigate the incident.
