Middletown Mayor Daniel Drew has fired transgender cop Francesca Quaranta, via a letter, reports the Middletown Press.
The mayor states in the letter that termination is based on administrative reasons and not disciplinary, reports Alex Gecan, of the Middletown Press.
Drew wrote that Quaranta used all of her sick and vacation time and failed a fitness for duty evaluation and refused to reschedule, the paper reports.
The Courant reported that the pre-termination process started this month after a city-hired psychologist determined that Quaranta was unfit to return to work.
Frank Quaranta became known as "Francesca" two years ago. She has worked as a Middletown police officer for seven years and initially said her colleagues supported her alternative lifestyle choice. She has since said the officers allegedly created a hostile work environment and she has filed a complaint.
The complaint she filed with the state Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities alleges that her supervisors in the police department created a hostile work environment because of her gender identity. Quaranta has been on administrative leave since August, 2013.
Mayor Drew said the allegations against the department will be discussed thoroughly.
