Drugs. See Something? Say Something!

So much has been in the news lately about the dangers of heroin.

Now that a deadly additive is found in the supply, it seems to cause more concern than when it was just plain ole heroin, slowly killing and destroying young people and causing pain and frustrations in our communities.

I feel the best way to help those who will become addicts is to take this possibility out of the closet. Peer pressure is highly contagious and addiction has no preferred ZIP code or race.

Because the insidious nature of this disease is so sneaky until the symptoms appear, it may be too late for the family to be of help. Addiction is much stronger than even the strongest among us.

Many times it is too shameful and embarrassing for families to speak about and they feel they must protect this problem to avoid harming reputations. Reputations are much easier to repair than the damage done by the effects of a family member who is addicted to drugs.

Schools and other places where young people gather should have this mantra: "See Something, Say Something."

Who knows -- it could be your child someone is saving.
