Obituary: Margaret "Peg" Smith

Margaret “Peg” (Jemison) Smith, of Enfield, entered into eternal rest at the age of 76, on Monday, May 27, 2013. Peg was the beloved wife of 56 years to James F. Smith.

She was born June 24, 1936 in Trenton, NJ, daughter of the late C. Edward and Mary (Smith) Jemison. Peg attended Ewing High School in NJ, College of Wooster in OH and received her Associates Degree from Asnuntuck Community College. Peg was employed by the Town of Enfield for 25 years, having worked at Mark Twain Congregate Housing, the Enfield Senior Center and Enfield Adult Day Care.

She resided in Enfield for 54 years, where she was very involved with the community. Through the years, Peg was active in a variety of volunteer programs, including the Enfield Food Shelf, Dial-a-Ride, ARC of Enfield, Enfield Children’s and Adult Day Care and received several commendations from both the Town of Enfield and State of CT. Peg also implemented a program called Wakee ~Sleepee Teddy Bear project, which organized people to make teddy bears for children in need. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts and became an avid follower of the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team.

Besides her loving husband Jim, Peg is survived by her two beloved daughters: Catherine Senkfor and husband Howard of South Euclid, OH, and Sandra Donelan and husband Christopher of Enfield; and her four grandchildren: Benjamin and Gregory Senkfor, and Kyle and Caroline Donelan. Peg is also survived by a brother, Ralph Jemison and his wife Shirley of PA.

Friends may call on Peg’s family during calling hours Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a Memorial & Remembrance Service with Pastor Steven Thayer officiating, at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield. Interment will be private in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Peg’s memory may be made to the Enfield Food Shelf, P. O. Box 699, Enfield, CT 06093-0699, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
