Obituary: George Newman, Sr.

George A. Newman, Sr., of Enfield, entered into eternal life at the age of 87 on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in Enfield. He was the beloved husband of Frances R. (Coleman) Newman. 

George was born Nov. 26, 1925 in Conimicut, RI. He had resided in Enfield for 56 years and in Providence, RI prior to that. He was a graduate of Classical High School and then went on to further his education at Allen School of Aeronautics, both in Providence, RI. George served his country honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Inc. for 28 years, and retired from AVCO-Lycoming Inc. as an instructor. George was a CCD teacher and member of St. Bernard Church in Enfield. He enjoyed doing genealogy research, but most of all spending time with his family.

Besides his loving wife of 64 years, Frances, he is survived by his four children: George A. Newman, Jr. and wife Jeannie of Enfield, Mary Beth Lamagna and husband Rob of Enfield, Donald Newman of Enfield and Gary Newman and wife Sarah of Cranford, NJ; his five beloved grandchildren, Rob Lamagna, Jr., Michael Lamagna, Justin Newman, Rachel Newman and Rebecca Newman; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Newman.

Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours Friday, June 14, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield. The funeral procession will form at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 to St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave., Enfield, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. The committal service will follow with military honors in St. Bernard Cemetery, Enfield.
