Obituary: Eileen Theresa McGuinness, 86, of Enfield

Eileen Theresa McGuinness, 86, of Enfield, widow of Edward W. McGuinness, Sr. (1995), entered into eternal peace Wednesday May 28th, 2014, at Hartford Hospital.

The daughter of the late Francis and Ellen Duffy, Eileen was born in Pawtucket, R.I. and moved to Enfield in 1957, where she had resided most of her life. She was a very active communicant at Holy Family Church where she assisted in the church rectory for many years and was a CCD teacher/staff support. She was also a founding member of the Holy Family Church Women’s Guild.

Eileen enjoyed sports and was a huge fan of UCONN basketball. Her most precious time was spent with her grandchildren as they affectionately called her “Ninny.”

Eileen is survived by her three children, Edward W. McGuinness, Jr. and his partner Michele Maglio of West Peabody, Mass; Mary Ellen Volodzko and her husband Michael of Enfield; and Susan O’Brien and her husband Kevin of Vernon; a sister Patricia Pickett and her husband Robert of Seekonk, Mass.; her grandchildren, Timothy O’Brien and his fiancée Frances Muldoon , Kaleigh O’Brien, Patrick Volodzko, Kelsey and Allison McGuinness; a sister-in-law and special friend, Rose McGuinness of Enfield, and many loving nieces, nephews and long-time friends.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and John Duffy, and two sisters, Alicia Coleman and Mary Elizabeth Duffy.

Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Tuesday June 3, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, for a procession to Holy Family Church for a noon mass of Christian burial. Committal will follow at St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Monday, June 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Leete-Stevens.
