Obituary: Chester "Chet" Spejewski

He was employed by Combustion Engineering/Alstom as a talented draftsman for 38 years.

Chester Spejewski, 78, of Enfield, died peacefully on Sunday (February 5, 2012).

He was born on March 13, 1933 in East Chicago, Indiana, the son of the late Stanley and Virginia Spejewski. He was employed by Combustion Engineering/Alstom as a talented draftsman for 38 years. Chet pitched on numerous softball teams and enjoyed other group sports, including his 3-club golf game. He gifted us all with beautiful painting, drawing, wood working, and modeling. He loved to create and invent. Chet always had a tune in his heart and a hop in his step to cheer us on, most likely a polka. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Red Sox and Notre Dame.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Margaret (Doyle); daughter Beth Frechette of Ellington; son John and Bridget Brennan Spejewski of Somers; daughter Susan and Mike Defranzo of Stafford; and son-in-law Rick Frechette of Enfield; as well as his grandchildren who adored him, Randy and Christy Frechette and Meaghan Defranzo. He is also survived by his sister Stella Darnell of Knox, Indiana; sister Sue and James Jongsma and brother Eugene and Doris Spejewski of Portage, Indiana, brother in law Frank Chance of Monticello, Indiana, sister in law Liz (Doyle) and Chuck Kristoff of Georgetown, Texas, and brother in law Tom and Jan Doyle of Amherst, Ohio; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Spejewski, brother in law Clyde Darnell, mother and father in law Joan and Fred Doyle, sisters in law Fran Bolling and Eleanor Chance, niece Jodie Bolling, nephew Brian Chance and brother in law Marvin Bolling.

Friends are invited to celebrate his life at a memorial service on Wednesday, February 8, at 5 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Enfield, 41 Brainard Road, Enfield, Connecticut. Family can be greeted at the church before the ceremony at 4:30 p.m. and at a reception following. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Enfield Food Shelf or Loaves and Fishes, Inc. Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 544, Enfield, CT 06082 or to your community food bank.
