Pearl Street Centennial Celebration – “The Edwardian Lady” featuring Kandie Carle

Date of Program:  Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 6:30 PM at the Enfield Senior Center

2014 marks The Pearl Street Branch Library’s 100th Anniversary!  Please join us in our year long Pearl Street Branch Centennial Celebration.

The multi-talented Kandie Carle presents, “The Edwardian Lady,” at the Enfield Senior Center (299 Elm Street, Enfield, CT), on Thursday, March 27th at 6:30 PM.  Ms. Carle takes her audience on a journey of discovery by using clothing and accessories as a tool, however this is not your average fashion show!  As she dresses in layer upon layer of the clothing of the chosen period, and as the pieces of clothing are added, Ms. Carle explains how the item was worn, as well as when and where it was appropriate.  Throughout the presentation, with both humor and grace, Ms. Carle shares insights into the fashion, lifestyle, manners and etiquette of men, women and children during the Edwardian time period.  Full of audience interaction, “The Edwardian Lady,” is sure to fascinate patrons of all ages.

Kandie Carle has been working in the theatre since 1980 as an actress, dancer, singer and director throughout the United States and abroad.  She is the Artistic Director of the East Haddam Stage Company, as well as a consultant and workshop teacher for first person interpretation for living history professionals.  She is also an accomplished seamstress, making reproductions from actual designs and patterns of the Regency, Civil War, Victorian and Edwardian periods.

The Centennial Celebration Committee have planned numerous events for the exciting year ahead, among them: a riveting book discussion series-“Book Discussions through the Decades,” a birthday party, a town-wide scavenger hunt with a 100 year theme, a marble tournament, “meet Andrew Carnegie”-with Richard Clark, an outdoor movie, a time capsule, special displays, and much more!  Be on the lookout for event listings via e-mail, press, library signage, and our library web page.
