On Saturday, July 19, 2014 forty individuals and teams will gather at the Pearl Street Library (159 Pearl Street, Enfield, CT) and experience the good old-fashioned pastime of playing marbles.  The tournament will be structured in 5 divisions, with eight individuals (or teams) in each division.  Single divisions are: ages 6 to 8, 9 to 11, 12 to 14 and two team divisions made up of one adult (ages 16 and up) and one child (ages 0 to 15).  Division play will begin at 9 AM with the last finals starting at 3 PM.  At 3:30 PM a celebrities’ game will be held.  That should be a Hoot!

No experience with marbles?  No problem!  On Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 5:30 PM the 1963 National Marbles Champion, Jim Donohue, will be on hand at the Pearl Street Library for pointers and practice.

Immediately following this practice session on July 16th at 7 PM, marbles enthusiast and author, Robert Block, will present a program on the history and collecting of marbles.  Mr. Block is literally the person who has written the book on marbles; in fact, more than a half dozen of them.  Also, don’t forget to check out Mr. Block’s incredible marbles display, which can be viewed throughout the month of July, at the Pearl Street Library.
