The Enfield Senior Center will host AARP “You’ve Earned a Say” Community Conversation on Thursday, August 16, at 6 p.m. You have worked hard for your Medicare and Social Security benefits and have earned the right to know what changes politicians are putting on the table. Come hear balanced information about Medicare and Social Security proposals that are being debated on the campaign trail. Come and make your voice heard. Join the national conversation. There will be refreshments and giveaways. Register by calling toll free at 877-926-8300 or online at http://aarp.cvent.com/CTYEAS2Enfield816

Have you noticed the freshly painted gazebo and the newly mulched beds?  The lawn has been mowed and all of the trees and shrubs have been trimmed.  The Enfield Senior Center has had a lot of attention from the Buildings and Grounds Division and the outdoors could not look better.  Of course, our attractive garden in the entrance has been planted and is maintained by the Enfield Garden Club.  We are so grateful for the care and attention.

Cardiologist Muzibal Chowdhury, M.D. is a strong advocate for living a healthy lifestyle.  I know because we often run into each other at the gym.  Dr. Chowdhury will share what it takes to keep your heart healthy and functioning properly on Thursday, August 23, at 6 p.m., at the Enfield Senior Center for “Keeping Your Heart Healthy.”  Learn what foods will keep you healthy and how much exercise you should get every day.  Please register by calling the Senior Center office.

Do you remember drive-ins, poodle skirts, hula hoops and 45 rpm records?  If you do, you are going to love this show.  The Skid Marks are coming to the Enfield Senior Center on Friday, August 17, at 6 p.m., performing hits of the 50’s and 60’s.  Listen and dance to “Rock Around the Clock,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Under the Boardwalk” and many more. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person and includes dessert and coffee at intermission.

It is still summer, but we are looking ahead to fall with registration beginning on August 14 for residents and August 21 for nonresidents.  The August newsletter, Front & Center, lists all of the fall classes and dates.  If you haven’t received a newsletter in the mail, you can pick one up at the Senior Center or find it online at www.enfield-ct.gov and click on Senior Center.

If you need help with any computer problem, stop in to the Computer Learning Center on Wednesdays from 8 to 10 a.m. and get answers to your computer questions.  No registration is necessary for the Computer Help Open Session every Wednesday.

We’re off to Long Island Wine Country for a wonderful day-trip on September 12, 2012.  Enjoy a cross-sound ferry ride to Long Island, where you’ll dine at the Soundview Restaurant for lobster or steak.  After lunch, you’ll visit one of Long Island’s famed wineries, Osprey’s Dominion Winery, for a tour and tasting of some of the best wines in the region.  You’ll see how the wine is made in this state-of-the art winery.  Before departing, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Greenport to enjoy the many quaint shops and galleries.  Cost is $133 per person.  Registration forms are available at the Senior Center front desk.
