Suffield Public Library Foundation to host Oscar nominee

The Suffield Public Library Foundation is proud to host Oscar nominee and visual effects artist Greg Butler for a Special Presentation and Evening of Discussion regarding his work as a VFX Supervisor on movies from the Harry Potter, Narnia, and Lord of the Rings series, among many others.

A Suffield native, Greg Butler will share how his career path led from Suffield to Hollywood during the historic development of CGI (computer-generated imagery) as a key aspect of contemporary film production.  Along with sharing examples of his work as a leader in the field of visual effects, he will discuss the subsequent challenges he has faced as a supervisor of visual effects on some of the most spectacular movies of our time, including his role in the creation of Gollum and the battles from the final Harry Potter movie.

Butler’s passion for movie making began in second grade when he produced short films with his brother and neighborhood friends under the “Blossom Street Productions” title.    A long way from Blossom Street in Suffield, Butler currently has over 20 movie credits to his name.  In 2012, Butler won the Special Visual Effects category at the British Academy Film Awards and was nominated for an Oscar for his work on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

His movie credits include the Lord of the Rings series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part II), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Prince Caspian, G.I. Joe, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and current productions such as Clint Eastwood’s Jersey Boys.  Butler is currently a Visual Effects Supervisor for The Moving Picture Company, which is one of the most active and innovative visual effects production houses in the world.

An Evening of Discussion with Visual Effects Artist Greg Butler will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Suffield High School Auditorium.   Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under.

All proceeds will benefit the Suffield Public Library Foundation and the fundraising efforts for the new library entrance.
