Chris Matthews of MSNBC's Hardball is the guest speaker for our fall fundraising luncheon this year. After being introduced by honorary co-chair Ted Kennedy, Jr., he will speak about his New York Times bestselling biography, Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero, and dicuss the importance of literacy in America, which is a cause close to the hearts of the Kennedy family.

At Read to Grow we know that books have the awesome power to change lives. We also know the tremendous price we pay for low literacy in our local and national economy.

That's why we keep forging ahead toward our goal of providing a book to every baby born in Connecticut and educating parents about the value of reading to their children right from birth.

In 1999, we launched our Books for Babies program at one hospital in New Haven.  Today we distribute books to newborns at a dozen birthing hospitals throughout the state; four of which are in the Greater Hartford region.  Through our continuum of services, we provide more than 120,000 new and gently used children's books to families across Connecticut every year.

We are thrilled that Chris Matthews, TV news commentator and political historian has enthusiastically agreed to join us as special guest speaker at our fall luncheon to help raise much needed funds to continue our important work.

Please join us on November 12th to support our work on behalf of our youngest citizens.  It promises to be a very enjoyable time with Chris Matthews.
