Teaching Children about Fire Safety

For just over twenty-one years the Fire Service of Enfield, under the direct supervision of the Enfield Fire Marshals Association, John Alexander has administered the Enfield Youth Firesetter Program.  This program was developed after a fire in a local resturant was investigated by Chief Jack Flanagan and determined to have been intentionally set by a young teen age child.  Wanting to know more about the problem, the Connecticut Commission on Fire Prevention and Control was contact and an informational meeting was scheduled.  Attendance was high and the information that was presented took us all totally by surprise.
What we knew and what was actually happening around this country as well as around the world made us beleive that we needed to get focused on this problem now.  Nineteen individuals took the initial training and to this date three from the original group remain.
Recently a new young women has joined the program, recieved training and certification as a Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist.
This program is free to all of the citizens of Enfieldm we only ask that if you want our help that you listen to us and complete the program.  Our program is educational based with assistance when needed by Mental Health and other agencies if needed.  For more information please call 860-745-1878 or contact any of your local fire departments.
