Visions For Vacancies: What Business Should Go Here?

Today's vacancy is the former Laurel House furniture building on Enfield Street.

Every other week, we present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use.

Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

Today we are featuring the large white building at the corner of Enfield and North Main streets. For many years, this site was home to Laurel House Furniture.

About this column: In highlighting vacant buildings in Enfield, we aim to help residents take a proactive role in planning and building their community. We'll take your feedback to public officials and property owners, to inform their decisions about future uses. Know of a vacant building we should highlight? Tell us in the comments below, or e-mail tim.jensen@patch.com.

I think it should be turned into a local community "shop"..almost like a flea market/farmers market style but with products... Such as any small businesses trying to get their products out there to the public to see. For example, I have my own small business..making my own homemade body care products and it has been very successful online..I would love to get my products out locally as well.. Promised Lands Natural Care It would be nice to work together as a community and we could all pitch in towards a monthly rent to showcase our items. Just my thought! :)

Make it an elegant place to be noted for wedding receptions, showers, engagement parties etc., or just for cozy dinners. Great food, excellent value and ambience. Even add some electric fireplaces in the different rooms. Maybe choose different themes throughout. And it would be conviennent for couples who use the "Green" for pictures and ceremonies would be close by. We miss places like the Mountain Laurel Resturant!
