Enfield ShopRite Makes Massive Turkey-Donation Effort

The grocery store looks to donate more than $30,000 turkeys this Thanksgiving, benefitting Enfield residents in need.

Thanksgiving is just days away. Families nationwide are preparing for travel, cooking, football watching and more, but a local grocery store has not forgotten those less fortunate.

ShopRite of Enfield is making a significant effort to make sure those who may not be able to afford a Turkey this Thanksgiving will have a bird on their table come Thursday.

The store is starting by selling its frozen turkey's at a discount, according to Charles Miller of Miller Farms Family Markets and Enfield's ShopRite.

Miller says that while the average frozen bird is sold for $20-$24, locals can get one at ShopRite for $15.

When someone purchases a turkey for from the Enfield ShopRite, the grocery store will match the donation, doubling the number of turkeys provided to those in need this season.

In addition, ShopRite customers will win a free turkey, ham or lasagna when they spend a total of at least $400 over the five weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, and they can donate that turkey ham or lasagna.

According to a Gallop poll, Americans spend an average of $151 each week on food.

According to ShopRite, the store's annual turkey-donation efforts have led to giving away more than $30,000 in turkeys each Thanksgiving.

All turkeys donated, and the turkeys provided by ShopRite as a match, will go to the Enfield Food Shelf for distribution, according to ShopRite.
