Enfield Restaurant Closes Abruptly

The Hazard Grille had been open since 2003, but closed its doors in the past few days.

The Hazard Grille, one of Enfield's more upscale restaurants, has apparently closed its doors.

Customers approaching the Hazard Ave. establishment Tuesday were greeted by a handwritten sign in the doorway which said, "The Hazard Grille is closed. We wish to thank you for your support."

The restaurant opened in 2003 when the facility was vacated by Woody's Brick Oven. Prior to that, a Red Lobster had operated at the site.

The property has been owned since 2001 by Leo Bhw Ltd, LLC of West Hartford, according to Enfield land records. Enfield Patch was unable to obtain a phone number or email address for that business.

The latest Enfield delinquent taxpayers report, a public document issued in Feb. 2013, shows the Hazard Grille owes $7,293.38 in back taxes.

In a call for comments about the closing on the Enfield Patch Facebook page, reaction seemed to be very mixed. Among the comments were:

  • "Hazard Grille was my favorite restaurant!! The food was great. My favorite was the Statler Chicken. We were there on April 16th for my birthday. I especially liked that it wasn't a chain like the rest of the town of Enfield!" - Ashley Hurley
  • "Kinda pricey and the menu was nothing special. Went once and never cared to return." - Crystal Wenzel
  • "It along with Figaro's are the only two good restaurants that are not affiliated with a chain. We have eaten there many times for lunch and dinner and have always enjoyed it." - Paul Dubreuil
  • "I went there once... would never have gone back anyway. The food wasn't that great and it was a little bit pricey." - Jennifer Bernier
  • "I always loved the food there, have been many many times. You have to pay a little extra for quality, fresh, made to order ingredients with great wait staff. I am really disappointed!" - Jeni Skukowski
  • "I was not a fan of the quality of their food...see ya HG!" - John Gionfriddo
