Petitioning Republicans Prevail in Enfield Primary

The four petitioning Republicans on Tuesday's election primary ballot defeated the party's endorsed slate, solidifying their place on the ballot in November's race for town council.

Incumbent Mayor Scott Kaupin was the top vote-getter, receiving 719 of the total votes, which just topped 1,000.

Kaupin was followed, in order, by DonnaSzewczak (650 votes), Carol Hall (644 votes) and Gregory Stokes, Jr. (617 votes).

Among the party-endorsed candidates, Ken Nelson, Jr. was the top vote-getter, receiving 505 votes.

According to the registrar of voters office, there will be a recount of votes because the margin between two party-endorsed candidates is fewer than 20 votes.

However, the recount will have no affect on Tuesday's results, making the petitioning candidates the official slate of the Enfield Republican party in November's municipal election.
