National Weather Service: Tornado Caused Damage in Windsor Locks, East Windsor

The roof of the Sports World bubble blew onto I-91.

The National Weather Service confirmed late Monday that a tornado was responsible for blowing the roof of the East Windsor Sports World bubble onto the southbound lanes of Interstate 91 Monday afternoon.

Police and fire vehicles choked the highway trying to clean up the debris. The tornado caused much damage in the form of downed trees and power lines around Windsor Locks and East Windsor.

Route 159 was closed near the train station in Windsor Locks next to the Exit 42 onramp because of the heavy rains, and there was widespread flooding on Center Street.

No injuries were reported Monday.
