Why go: Beginners can sign up for chess lessons, and pros can sign up for matches.

Where/When: Enfield Barnes & Noble—March 18 at 7 p.m.
Why go: Come to storytime to celebrate two very different friends, who love each other for everything they are…and everything they’re not.
Price: FREE
Where/When: Ellington High School cafeteria—March 19 from 8-10:30 a.m.
Why go: Come enjoy a pancake breakfast while you are entertained by Ellington Friends of Music’s singers and musicians.
Price: $6 per person, children under 3 are free
Where/When: LP Wilson Community Center—599 Matianuck Ave., Windsor—March 19 from 9 a.m.-12 noon
Why go: Come enjoy some pancakes and sausage with your family and visit with the Easter Bunny. Be sure to bring a camera and a donation for the Food Bank so your child can make a craft. Proceeds benefit local charities.
Price: $5 for adults, $4 for children
5. Bird Sunday
Where/When: The Children’s Museum—950 Trout Brook Road, West Hartford—March 20 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Why go: Meet a live eagle and other birds of prey, make houses for bluebirds and a bird feeder, learn about bird-banding and find out what is inside an owl pellet.
Price: Free with museum admission ($11 ages 2-62, Free for children under 2 and $10 for ages 63+.
