This Week at the Senior Center

Upcoming programs, events, and goings on at the Enfield Senior Center.

The Saint Francis Hospital Injury Prevention Program would like to invite you to attend an Elder Fall Prevention Safety Workshop on September 17, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Enfield Senior Center. Learn how to prevent a fall, about home hazards, modifications and medication safety. Each participant will be able to participate in a 30-minute free Tai Chi class, have a free lunch and receive a safety gift for attending. Please call the Senior Center office to register. There is no charge for this event, but registration is required.

The firefighters are doing it again! Five Enfield Fire Districts work together to prepare hamburgers and hot dogs for community older adults on Wednesday, September 12, at noon, in Enfield Rotary Park at the Enfield Senior Center. Bring your chair and enjoy entertainment by Rod Bungard and his band, too. Pick up your free ticket in the Senior Center office. In the event of inclement weather the picnic will be held the next day. This is the 9th year for this event. Thank you Enfield Firefighters!

Shake, Rattle and Roll with the Corvettes Doo Wop Revue performing more 50’s and 60’s favorites on Friday, September 21, at 6 p.m. The Corvettes perform “Little Darlin”, “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”, and “The Twist” as well as other favorites. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person and include dessert and coffee. We sold out last year when the Corvettes were here and we had to wait a whole year to have them back. Don’t miss it!

Learn about the language, culture and historical background of Italy. Stop in for the Italian Culture Series beginning Monday, September 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. This series will continue on the first Monday or every month. Native speaker, Anthony Trichilo, creates a fun and relaxed way to explore the country without leaving Enfield.

St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center will present “Dessert with the Doctor” featuring Dr. Jay Kimmel. Dr. Kimmel will talk about Knee Replacement Alternatives: How to Save Your Joints. Join him for dessert and coffee as he discusses managing knee pain. Learn about non-surgical treatments that are available for those who suffer from osteoarthritis including regenerative injections on Thursday, September 20, at 6 p.m.

September is National Senior Center Month. Celebrate with a tour of the Enfield Senior Center on Tuesday, September 18, at 10 a.m. No need to register, just meet in the Senior Center Library.

Many people have missed the Enfield Senior Center dinner dances. They are back! The dinner includes Chicken Piccata, Pasta with Oil and Garlic, Broccoli, Coffee, Tea and Apple Strudel. Tickets are on sale in the Senior Center office for $14 per person.
