The growing problem of has attracted the attention of state and local officials.
The Scantic River Park is a 784-acre state park, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
"We intend to contact DEEP," state Sen. John Kissel said in an email Friday to Enfield Patch.
"That is horrible...I'll have to work with the town and DEEP to see if we can do something," state Rep. Kathy Tallarita said via email Friday. "This has been escalating out of control over the years."
Enfield Mayor Scott Kaupin posted his reaction on the Facebook page Enfield Needs Change.

"Spoke to the Town Manager (Friday) morning and he was to contact DEEP regarding the park and the mess that was left behind on July 4th," Kaupin wrote. "He is going to ask for DEEP law enforcement to patrol the park. I also requested a stepped up presence this weekend and to monitor the parking along the road. Those parking illegally are to be ticketed and towed. We can not restrict access to those legally entering the park, but we can make sure that our laws are followed by those visiting the park and Enfield."
Enfield police made their presence felt late Sunday afternoon, as tickets were issued to dozens of illegally parked cars along Powder Hill Road.
Numerous vehicles were also seen parked on private property adjacent to the on South Maple Street. More than half the vehicles seen in the area bore out-of-state license plates.
