Early Forecast: State Could See 6-10 Inches of Snow Later This Week

A lot depends on the track of the storm, but it's looking like a white end to the week.

It's early yet, but the state could see 6-10 inches of snow Thursday and Friday from a coastal storm.

Most areas of Connecticut are expected to get a dusting of up to an inch of snow on New Year's Eve, most of which should melt off in the expected sunshine of New Year's Day.

But Thursday afternoon, the snow is expected to start again and last through Friday, according to NBC Connecticut meteorologist Bob Maxon and the National Weather Service.

Snow or not, temperatures are supposed to plunge and get downright arctic. Wednesday's high temperature is expected to be a comparatively balmy 29 degrees, but the thermometer will drop to a high of 24 on Thursday and just 15 on Friday.

The weekend looks sunny and cold with highs in the 20s before another storm system moves in with an expected mix of ice and snow.

Here's the forecast through the weekend for Middletown, a rough midpoint of the state, from the National Weather Service:
