"Bitter Cold" to Bear Down on Enfield

True temperatures are hovering around single digits, but the wind chill is expected to send us plunging into negative double digits Friday night.

With the wind chill, it feels like 0ºF in Enfield Friday morning, but it's only going to get colder over the next 12 hours.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind chill advisory with forecasts of gusts reaching 30 miles per hour and a chill as low as -18º.

Given the chill, it is expected to feel like -15 in town by 10 p.m.

Such low temperatures can create unsafe conditions for residents, and those in need of a heating shelter should call 211 for assistance, according to Enfield Emergency Management.

You should also use these tips to prevent frozen or burst pipes in such low temperatures.

Pets are especially at risk, and should be provided warm shelter.
