John Maciolek American Legion Post 154 Sponsors Future Leaders

The John Maciolek American Legion Post 154 sponsored Benjamin Gee to attend the American Legion Boys’ State and Jean Kim to attend the American Legion Girls’ State held during the month of June at Eastern University.  Ben and Jean had the opportunity to run for office, learn public speaking, create and enforce laws and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working state government.  During the elections at Boys’ State, Ben was elected State Governor.  He was 1 of 2 individuals selected to represent the State of Connecticut at the American Legion Boys’ Nation in Washington D.C.  

 Ben and Jean attend Suffield High School.  Ben is a member of the National Honor Society, Academic Quiz Team, Model United Nations Club, and student government.  He was a Post 154 Oratorical Winner in 2012 and 2013.  He placed 2d in the First District Oratorical contest for 2012 and 2013, and, he placed 2d in the Voice of Democracy VFW, State of CT. 

 Jean is a member of the National Honor Society, the President of Student Senate, Founder of Model United Nations Club, member of the Giraffe Club, and Communications Director of the Hugh O’Brian Leadership Organization.  Jean also finds time to play field hockey and tennis. 

Ben and Jean will do a presentation of their experiences at Boys’ and Girls’ State during Post 154 September meeting.
