Jason Ellsworth, an East Windsor resident, who has been blind since birth is the Team Captain of the “Walk for Dignified Rides for Seniors” to be held on Sunday, April 28 at Asnuntuck Community College. The Walk provides much needed funding to insure ITNNorthCentral Connecticut™, continues the commitment to have available dignified transportation for seniors and the visually impaired. Trained drivers, provide rides for any purpose, including medical and hair appointments, errands and lunch or dinner dates. It allows seniors to continue living an independent, connected life on their terms. ITN’s service area includes the towns of Bloomfield, East Granby, East Windsor, Enfield, Granby, Somers, South Windsor, Suffield, Windsor and Windsor Locks. Margaret Smith-Hale stated “I am so pleased Jason agreed to be a Team Captain for the Walk. Having someone who benefits from the organization and recognizes the need for this type of transportation is key to the Walk’s success.” Jason is a new ITN member, who has been blind since birth. He understands first-hand the need to be independent and an active member of society, Jason volunteers at CRIS radio, a radio reading service for the blind and print handicapped. At CRIS radio, Jason operates the control board and reads the weather forecast. He is also an accomplished musician and sings in the choir at the First Congregational Church of East Windsor. ITN allows Jason to be independent and have access to transportation on his own schedule. With ITNNorthCentral Connecticut™, senior citizens and the visually impaired do not have to be housebound. ITNNorthCentral Connecticut™ provides rides 24/7, 365 days of the year. Registration for the Walk begins at 9 a.m. with the Walk scheduled for 10 a.m. Seabury and Seabury At Home in Bloomfield and Cigna Foundation are the Journey Sponsors of the event, while Consulting Ophthalmologists, Radiology Associates of Hartford and Retina Consultants, P.C. are the Drive sponsors.
