Enfield HS Girls capture Rotary Classic Basketball crown

The 21st Annual Enfield Rotary Classic Girls' Basketball Tournament was held at Enfield HS December 26 and 27, with Enfield’s Raiders earning the title of 2013 tournament champions.

Enfield defeated runner-up East Granby HS 39-30 in the championship game Friday night. Fermi’s Falcons took third place honors by defeating Stafford HS in Friday’s consolation game.

Christina Leonardo of Enfield was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Other All-Stars named to the All-Tournament Team included Regina LeBlanc of Enfield, Samantha Daleb, Hannah Dumas and Kayla Johnson of East Granby and Tory Weatherwax of Fermi.

The Enfield Rotary Club will present proceeds from the tournament to the Enfield and Fermi girls' basketball teams at upcoming home games. Since 1992, the club has contributed more than $21,000 to the two girls’ basketball programs.

Under the direction of tournament co-chairs Nick Deni and Ed Palomba, many Enfield Rotarians volunteered to make this year's tournament a success.

“The Enfield Rotary Club extends its sincere thanks to tournament sponsors COSTCO of Enfield, Miller Farms Family Market - Shop Rite of Enfield, Awards & More and The Riley Company,” Deni stated. “A special tip of the hat to Marek Jewelers of Enfield, who have donated the MVP award since the tournament began,” he added.
