Suspicious Letter Forces JFK Lockdown

White powder found in an envelope at the middle school.

Local, state and federal law enforcement officials are investigating an incident that forced the lockdown of John F. Kennedy Middle School Monday afternoon.

Enfield police were notified around 1 p.m. that a letter had been delivered to the school which contained a white powder, Chief Carl Sferrazza said.

Police and firefighters responded, as did agents from the Department of Environmental Protection and the FBI. The suspicious envelope was removed from the scene and will be tested at a laboratory, Sferrazza said.
