Scenes From CT’s Xotic Auto Club Car Show

The show brought car enthusiasts to downtown Enfield and helped to raise money for and awareness of the Enfield Food Shelf.

Nearly 200 bikes and cars rallied against hunger on Sunday when they turned out for CT’s Xotic Auto Club Car Show to benefit the Enfield Food Shelf.

Since the 1960s volunteers have prepared and distributed food to thousands of needy families, according to the Food Shelf Web site.

According to the site, since 1968 local civic and business organizations and individuals have supported the food pantry. Smith acknowledged the dedication in 2006 when she wrote: “The Food Shelf was, and is, a combined effort of thousands of people working and donating, coordinating food drives, and helping in creative ways to feed the hungry.”

This spirit of generosity thrives thanks to the dedication of people helping their neighbors.

“Half of the proceeds and all of the food donations will go to the Enfield Food Pantry,” CT’s Club Co-President Sam Vega said.

“We’ve had a really good turnout,” Vega said of the Trantolo & Trantolo and Porter And Chester Institute sponsored event.

Many of the show cars had spectators and show participants doing double takes. (Downtown Enfield, between North Main and Pearl streets, was shut down for the show.)

One of the main attractions was Juan Hernandez’s 1984 Toyota Corolla SR5. Themed on the Al Pacino movie “Scarface”, the Corolla has many eye-catching features, such as “gun” armrests and amazing artwork. Hernandez, from Burlington, CT, had some of the many trophies the car has won on display.

Jerry Zayas, President of Dreamz II Reality Motorsports, arrived in his 2000 Hyundai Elantra. With way too many custom features to list, the Rolls Royce Georgian silver and purple-painted car lived up to its “Bling” license plate.

New Haven-based Street Terminators President Alex Hernandez arrived in his colorful 2002 Ford Expedition. The highly airbrushed orange and yellow SUV’s paint scheme stood out like a beacon under the ever-darkening sky.

Parked nearby was fellow Street Terminator Mike Ward Sr., with his 1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT. The New Britain resident turned his car into an Avatar-themed machine for the 2011 car show season.

As the show approached trophy time, the threatening skies brought thunder and heavy rain, which didn’t seem to deter the hardy band of car owners who stayed until the very end to show their support for this worthy cause.
