The top 5 ways you can enjoy Read Across America day and Dr. Seuss's birthday

It’s time to celebrate the National Education Association’s Read Across America day and Dr. Seuss’s birthday! Here are the top 5 ways you can enjoy the day because as Dr. Seuss says, “the more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!”

Patch Picks:

1. Enfield Public Library—March 2—Bring in books in good condition from your personal collection to swap with others! Take as much time as you’d like to read and enjoy the day! Book swap starts at 3:30 p.m. and goes until 5 p.m. This event is free.

2. Springfield Museums—March 5— Watch a kid-friendly “Poetry in Motion Crew” performance celebrating reading and dancing and then vote for your favorite Dr. Seuss cake in the cake contest. Be sure to stop by the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden! This event is free with admission to the museum. Adult admission is $12.50, seniors are and college students (with ID) are $9, children ages 3-17 are $6.50 and children 2 and under are free

3. Read a book online—help donate books to school libraries in disadvantaged communities by reading a book on this website. This event is free; you just have to register (for free).

4. Learn about Dr. Seuss and his wife, Audrey Geisel—getting a peek into the life, love and work of a man who has had a lasting influence on children’s literature and American culture. Be sure to read the biography at the bottom of the page!

5. Story Time: Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss—March 2— Come listen to some of Dr. Seuss’s classics and enjoy a fun craft at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in West Hartford! This event is free and takes place at 1 p.m.
